I was at the Halifax-Gatineau game last night and MacKinnon was a beast, but I think Drouin may be better. They both are amazing though and Colorado will be kicking themselves for matching the offer sheet for O'Reilly. Imagine getting both? They were unreal...
It was actually almost the exact way I wanted it to go. Dominate probably 80%-90% of the game and lose. Would have liked a 2-1 result instead of 4-1, but can't get picky.
I love MacKinnon's game. My comparison would not be to Crosby but rather to Toews. A great leader, a great puck possession guy. I'm not sure his hockey smarts are actually through the roof (compared to those guys) but he's got a top gear that blows other players in the Q - a good skating league - away.
Room to grow on his frame, and room to grow in terms of faceoffs/positioning, but he's a natural back-checker on a team with more than a couple of floaters, and the skating/shooting/stickhandling is already there.
And just in case you were worried he's just a dipsy doodler
With Colorado likely to take Jones if first, there's a good opportunity to grab a franchise center. If Florida gets him and Huberdeau as a 1-2 punch going forward: look out.

Is Reinhart looking great or what? - beingaflamesfan
I think he has done quite well in his first couple NHL games. He's getting pucks to the net and creating plays! definitely impressed.

Pittsburgh might have found a rough gem in Stefan Fournier. A bit of a loafer but he uses his body really well. The rich get richer...

Im high on MacKinnon....centers like him are worth tons to teams in many regards. It will certainly depend where they sit, however. - Colin Dambrauskas
BPA is a strong consideration, and tough to compete with Drouin's hands and playmaking, but I wonder whether Feaster will look to avoid more of the "Edmonton mistakes" and look for a mac truck forward as opposed to another smaller guy of the MacKinnon or especially Drouin mold.

Yeah...MacKinnon isnt currently too big (5'11, 180) but is very strong on his skates.

I'm hearing a lot of Flames fans saying to move up and get 2 top 5 picks. With 3 firsts it may be possible. I remember 3 years ago a lot of Oiler fans talking about trading up and getting both Hall and Seguin. They tried, but I think it's tougher than most realize.
If Calgary ends up with say picks 3, 20, 29 in the first, then 33(their second rounder), would Flames fans be up for trading picks 20,29 and 33 to move up to 5-6th?
MacKinnon and Nurse (or Zadorov) would be a huge start to the rebuild.

I think in this particular draft its even more unlikely. Not sure why anyone with a top 5 trades it away for essentially a late first and two seconds.

Pretty sure we have no 2nd round pick, could be wrong....

Given the depth of this draft....I would almost rather pick 4 times in the first 40 selections than twice. Even though they would be two top 5 guys....those four additions could also pay dividends.

Unfortunately, Montreal have our 2nd
I think the only way we have even a whiff of getting another top 10 pick is packaging up one of our later 1sts & taking on a huge salary dump from an underachieving cap maxed team. Even if we can get a 9th or 10th overall pick by doing that, then trade that pick & the St Louis pick for that top 5 pick. gree it sounds fantastic but the reality of getting it done is well............

No 2nd rounder this year. But, I would do that in a heartbeat. I am a very big fan of Zadorov and was really hoping that we could somehow land Mackinnon/Barkov/Drouin and Zadorov.

It all depends how confident you are in Feasters drafting I suppose.
